Patroltorpedbåten PT-109Togs i bruk 1942 i Stilla havet. Den 2 augusti 1943 rammade den japanska jagaren Amagiri PT-109, vilket fick patrullbåten att sjunka. I en krissituation lyckades förbandets befälhavare och USA:s blivande president John F. Kennedy rädda hela besättningen. Handlingarna gjorde honom till en krigshjälte!Patrullbåten var bemannad av en besättning på 12-17 personer. Det sista uppdraget deltog i 13 besättningsmedlemmar ledda av kapten Kennedy. PT-109 drevs av tre 1500 hk (1100 kW) Packard 12-cylindriga bensinmotorer. Båtens hastighet var cirka 41 knop (76 km/h). PT-109 hade ett enda 20 mm Oerlikon luftvärnsvapenfäste baktill. I slutet av sitt sista uppdrag installerade besättningen en 37 mm pansarvärnskanon i fören. Det viktigaste offensiva vapnet för båten var hennes torpeder. PT-109 var utrustad med fyra 21-tums (53 cm) torpedrör som innehöll Mark 8-torpeder. Den var också utrustad med två djupladdningar och dubbelkopplade tunga maskingevär.

The TORPEDO BOAT pt-109 patrol entered service in 1942 in the Pacific. On August 2, 1943, the Japanese destroyer Amagiri rammed the PT-109, causing the patrol boat to sink.
